Here they are, as recorded by Prof. Mann in the file "1209proxynames.xls", downloadable from his PSU website. Column U, "pass-screening over 1850-1995 (r)"

0.3066 Darksum
0.2714 Lightsum
0.2987 Thickness
0.1232 X-Ray Density

As you can see, XRD had the lowest correlation with gridcell temperature anomaly. I believe that 0.1232 is below the passing cutoff.

This finding does not affect the evidence put forward in this post. The same reasoning is applicable to Mann08's treatment of Lightsum, which did pass this test.AMachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08872008617279528583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7805174.post-63155935009527290782010-08-02T21:54:24.885-07:002010-08-02T21:54:24.885-07:00An excellent summary. If it is confirmed that Mann...An excellent summary. If it is confirmed that Mann 2008 did use the XRD proxy with greater density = warmer orientation, then all his defenders should be ashamed of themselves.

Unless they can accept errors when they can be shown to have occurred, they are not competent to comment on the field. That includes a definite statement on the potential competence of well known commentators such as Gavin Schmidt, Grant Foster (Tamino), & William Connelly, all of who have steadfastly refused to look at the actual facts.Ed Snacknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7805174.post-47299006366949320272010-08-02T08:28:58.982-07:002010-08-02T08:28:58.982-07:00i doi dostevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06920897530071011399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7805174.post-18409788815643132802010-04-26T07:57:43.142-07:002010-04-26T07:57:43.142-07:00It seems a pity that you take the time to put this...It seems a pity that you take the time to put this work up, the comparison between ice & silt is very good, and no bugger reads it!
AdamAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
